Sarah is director of her London-based architectural practice which she founded in 1994. Her pioneering, research-based practice specialises in explores ecological solutions and has designed buildings for the educational, community, masterplanning, cultural and housing sectors, in particular specialist housing, and has won many awards for its work.
Sarah also writes and speaks about her and the practice’s work, authoring two books and many articles. She was granted the title Royal Designer for Industry in 2012 and was awarded an MBE in 2003. Between 1997 and 2016 she was Professor of Architecture at the University of Sheffield where she headed the DWELL research project designing exemplary neighbourhoods and housing for older people.
