The latest instalment of the Future Health 2050 series took place on 9 July, featuring a panel of experts who discussed designopportunities
to enhance the lives of those with dementia. The webinar was a great success, and the recording is now available to watch.
Titled 'From Room to Village: Design Support for Competence in Dementia,' the webinar, supported by Gerflor, explored how environmental design at various scales can improve the abilities of individuals with dementia. This included spaces ranging from individual rooms to entire villages and health policies.
The webinar explored how design could contribute to the 'I’m Still Here HOPE' narrative, shifting the focus from despair and medication to disability, hope, and thoughtful design.
The physical environment was highlighted as crucial in uncovering abilities, fostering skills, and supporting competencies, especially for those with dementia. Despite the stigma and narrative of inevitable decline, individuals with dementia have many competencies that can be highlighted through thoughtful design.
